ParticipantAttached is our New Sergeant Training and Orientation Manual. In addition, our policy on new sergeant training states the following:
Newly promoted first-line sworn supervisors will go through a two-week training and orientation program developed by the Training Unit where they will ride with a senior sergeant so they may observe, learn, and demonstrate the skills necessary to perform their job function.
New supervisors will receive instruction from a Sergeant Trainer on the topics listed in the New Sergeant Training & Orientation Manual prior to the completion of their two-week training and orientation period. All training documentation will be forwarded to the Training Unit for filing.
As a general rule, new supervisor training will take place as soon as practical, and no later than six months, following the employee’s promotion date to sergeant.
Sergeant Trainer Criteria: Sergeants selected as a Sergeant Trainer (ST) shall have successfully completed their probationary period and received a “Meets Standards” rating on their most recent annual performance evaluation.
It is the responsibility of the Patrol Division Commander to place the newly promoted sergeant with an ST and ensure that the training and orientation program is completed prior to the new sergeant being assigned to independent, supervisory duties.
Hope this helps! If you need anything else, please let me know!
