ParticipantWe have a combined communications center that dispatches for city and county law enforcement and fire rescue, but we have been combined for some time. (2001). Just let me know if you would like me to set up a tour/visit and I’ll be glad to help.

ParticipantThe process at our agency works like this: We have a list of approved firearms that people can choose to carry and that list is published in policy. The deputy simply shows up on firearms qualification day (or makes an appointment with Training based on availability to qualify on another day) with the personal gun. The firearms instructor/armorer inspects the gun prior to qualification with it and if it is satisfactory, runs the deputy through the off-duty qualification course, then records the inspection of the gun, along with the model, caliber and serial number of the gun on the qualification sheet. That serves as the approval of the gun to be carried as a personally owned back-up/survival weapon. The qualification form is attached.
