PD.Professional.Compliance@stpete.orgWe sent out a legislative update (attached). This is number 16 on the last page. We are still working on policy revisions, but this is what we are planning to add:
A. An individual who violates State law, City ordinance or a Rule or Regulation as provided in Ordinance 20-30, while on or within any City-Owned property, may be issued a City-Owned Property Trespass Warning Form for the specific City-Owned property where the violation occurred.
ADDING: Officers will take action to prohibit any person from regularly engaging in the activity of public camping or sleeping overnight, when made aware of such activity (§ 125.0231, Florida Statutes).

Involved parties will be instructed to self-report the crash to the FLHSMV website (FloridaCrashPortal.gov) or exchange information without police involvement when all of the following criteria are met:
a. The crash occurs in a parking lot or on private property,
b. The apparent damage is under $500, and

If firearms are surrendered on-scene, we transfer them to the custody of the SO. The SO executes search warrants, handle returns/notifications, etc.

We do have separate policies for the Taser, Use of Force, and Weapons Qualifications. There are also attachments to this policy for our approved weapons types.
The St. Petersburg Police Public Safety Cadet Program was initially created as the St. Petersburg Police Explorers in 1969. The program was run under the Boy Scouts of America – Learning for Life division through 2021. In 2022, the program joined the Public Safety Cadets organization and continued to be sponsored by the St. Petersburg Police Department.
