Cold Case SOP

We are conducting research on behalf of our department regarding Cold Case Unit protocols and the utilization of retired investigators. We are specifically interested in gathering information from agencies of comparable size, with particular focus on departments in South Florida (North Miami Beach PD, Miramar PD, Pembroke Pines PD, Coral Gables PD, and Hollywood PD).

We would appreciate your input on the following:

Does your homicide unit maintain a formal Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for cold case investigations?

What is your department’s policy regarding the employment of retired investigators?

Do you offer positions for retired investigators?

If so, what are the terms of engagement (volunteer basis, part-time employment, consulting arrangements)?

This information will support our proposal to department leadership for program development. Your insights from similar-sized agencies would be invaluable to our research.
