I am looking for any policies and/or forms related to Pawn Brokers and Secondhand Dealers. In addition to any policies, I am looking for inspection checklists/reports that the detectives can complete and document their activities.

We enter all firearms under one of the 3 property types: evidence, safekeeping, and found property. All 3 categories are then treated differently, especially when it comes to retention.

    Hello PAC Fam,

We are currently discussing a scenario and would appreciate some clarification. If a firearm is turned in for safekeeping, recovered from a scene—such as during a Baker Act situation—or found in a public place (e.g., a park), should it be entered into the system as safekeeping, or is it simply being impounded without system entry?

Additionally, if there is a specific policy directing members on how to handle such situations, please forward it to me.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    Good Afternoon and Happy Friday,

This should be an easy one, just a yes or no, does your agency allow non-uniformed civilian male employees (i.e., 911 Communications, Property/Evidence Clerk, etc.) to wear post type earrings?

    Thank you,

    Greetings,

We currently use the RMR 06 red dot optic on our duty issued handguns. We also utilize the RMRcc on our subcompact guns (G43, G43x, G48).

Some of our specialty units have the 509T’s as they switch to red dots before then agency switched. We have not had good luck with the quality of those optics. I would hesitate recommending them. Miami-Dade had the same issues as we did with the 509T. Holosun’s other optics seems to be good, like the 507.

    My added 2 cents:

I would highly recommend the RMR HD Trijicon RMR® HD Reflex Sight | Trijicon® . It has a large window and a top loading battery. You absolutely cannot go wrong with Triicon Products. Do not let the open admitters scare you away. All of the optics will fog over from the extreme temperature changes.

If you buying new Glock MOS guns, buy the C&H optics plates. It’s the only plate system that Trijicon backs that does not need the sealing plate. If you use any other mounting plate you will need to use a sealing plate for the RMR style mounts.

Although I am not a fan of a handgun that has been milled for a direct mount optic I must admit the new package from Glock that has the Aimpoint optic already directly mounted is a good deal. I think the agency price is under $800 for gun and optic. I believe BSO is going with this package as is Dade County.

Here is the criteria we are approving for off duty optics. Some of these are selfish because we wanted to limit what things we had to carry for maintenance.

The optics must have the following characteristics:
    • At least a 2MOA dot (preferred 3.25MOA)
    • Dot needs to be red (unless the deputy has a documented eye issue and cannot see red)
    • Powered by a 2032, 1632 or 1630 battery or be entirely solar
