We have recently introduced a restraint bed for an inmate who kept pulling his insides…out! Our written directive is currently in draft mode, so here it is.
He continued to injure himself unless he was restrained in 6 points, so medical staff helped ambulate his limbs, then we went right back in. Due to his behavior, he was under continuous direct observation of two ERT members at a time. Previously and for other inmates, we have used CNAs through a company contracted by our medical provider to lower the cost and labor, but those inmates were less disruptive. This inmate was reviewed daily by our Inmate Management Team comprised of sworn staff, medical, and mental health staff to keep his behavior plan relevant and up-to-date with his actions.
