We just completed our annual inventory a few weeks ago. During the inventory, we had a total of 222,144 items.
Our policy states we shall conduct a partial accounting of no less than 1000 total items. We use a statistical sampling to calculate the values of what to inventory. The high risk items (currency/high value, guns, and drugs) are calculated using a stratified sampling calculator. Then a representative sample is selected from the remaining items of property and evidence. We select a variety of areas to inventory the remaining general property and evidence.
Our inventory in June had the following items:
Currency/High Value: 581 (Sample size: 17)
Firearms: 4155 (Sample size: 121)
Drugs: 30,830 (Sample size: 898)
All other evidence/property items: 186,578 (Sample size 170)
